So when you think and talk to yourself, what are you saying? Is it a steady diet of encouragement, validation, compliments and love? Or is it a variety of junk food type thoughts that include criticism, doubt, and perhaps even punishment? When you eat right and take care of your body, you expect to feel good. So why do so many people expect to feel okay after repeated portions of self-cruelty? Most people would respond strongly if someone said that they beat someone else up. Why do many people listen with acceptance when they hear someone say , “I beat myself up? I think that it’s because so many people do this. Sometimes people think that they will "learn" if they punish themselves. I believe that holding yourself responsible for your actions, and addressing your mistakes with love and forgiveness increases the likelihood of truly learning and giving you the energetic support to make any changes that you need to make.
Just as you may reach for the fruit and vegetables when you are on your path to health, remember to reach for more loving thoughts as well. Remind yourself that you expect to be treated with the same grace that you give others, from yourself. And know that when you feed yourself love, you will be satiated and full…full of life!
